A short reflection ahead of BETT 2014.......

Well we are almost 12 months on from BETT 2013 and the Technology in Higher Education conference, Wednesday sees the start of Technology in Higher Education at BETT 2014 at the London Excel.

I thought it would be a good time to check back on some of the highlights and linked presentations to allow us to reflect ahead of the 2014 show on some of themes, tech and predictions at last years event and have a look where we are now with these.......

It's fair to say that many of the discussions are equally valid today, some have moved on a pace and others are still on the edges or fringe of early adoption. So what will 2014 bring to the table, will there be more of the same, will there be case studies and evidence supporting the embedding of some of the tech and ideas on show? It's fair to say I don't find the trade show massively invigorating with an overkill of similar tech, but I do usually give the trade show a circuit or two whilst I am there and normally come away with a couple of ideas that may be of use or integrate well. Though the main value for me is the keynotes and discussions at the conference. These stimulate thought and ideas as well as providing an excellent opportunity to meet up with many of my social connections / personal learning network for wider discussion and some good old networking.

One interesting highlight from last year was a chance to hear Aaron Sams and John Bergman, the authors of the Flipped Classroom speak and have a chance to speak to them and discuss the wider concepts, here is their session from 2013 (they're back again in 2014 too!)

Trade shows may not be your bag, but certainly look for the value and tap into any conferences which may provide food for thought or a chance to stimulate some ideas and out of box thinking around day to day problems.
